Gooseberry is a beautiful green fruit known for its rich tartness. Amla, as it is commonly known in the Indian subcontinent, has been the heroic ingredient in countless Ayurvedic medicine for years. So, the powerhouse of Vitamin C and the Immune system strengthener is what the gooseberry fruit is all about.
Gooseberry juice, when consumed in an empty stomach, is believed to benefit the health to the maximal level. There are numerous good things to count on when speaking about gooseberries. I would like to list a few and let you know about the goodness of incredible gooseberries.

So, the tasty gooseberry juice not only amazes the palate but also benefit the skin, hair and body health. Whenever available, I stock gooseberries at home to play around with them, making lots and lots of lovely dishes. This gooseberry/amla juice recipe is the routine recipe of mine which I used to do with variations each time I prepare.
Sometimes, it would be just gooseberries with added honey. At times, I love to introduce mild heat with a dash of ginger. I add lemon zest sometimes which adds a nice lemony punch to the juice. The sweetening agent could be either honey or jaggery as both marry well with the gooseberries.
The recipe which I have chosen to post is my favourite variation of gooseberry juice. It has its own sweetness, tartness, lemony punch, mild heat and nuttiness which makes it so special to enjoy every morning.
Ingredients & their roles:
- Gooseberries - loaded with Vitamin A, Vitamin C, protein, vital vitamins and minerals.
- Lemon - packed with Vitamin C which also adds a lemony punch to the amla juice.
- Coconut - enhances the richness of the amla juice.
- Black pepper - to add mild heat which soothes the throat.
- Cumin seeds - aids ingestion which also adds some special nutty taste and aroma.
- Salt - to enhance the taste profile.
- Jaggery powder or Honey - to sweeten the juice. Honey if added would add an extra health benefit.

Gooseberry/Amla Juice | Immunity Strengthener | Rich in Vitamin C
An Energetic, Immunity boosting juice prepared with gooseberries along with some special ingredients like black pepper & cumin seeds to enhance the health and taste profile.
What to Use?
- Gooseberries - 10 deseeded.
- Lemon wedge - a small piece (optional)
- Freshly shredded coconut - 1 tbsp (or coconut pieces)
- Black pepper - 1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Jaggery powder or Honey - 4 tbsp (adjust to suit your palate)
- Water - 4 cups
Steps Involved: |
- Deseed the gooseberries and transfer them to a large mixer jar.
- Add a small lemon wedge to the mixer jar.
- Add some freshly shredded coconut to the mixer jar.
- Add black pepper, cumin seeds and salt to the mixer jar.
- Grind the transferred ingredients without any water to it.
- Now add a little water and jaggery powder and grind again.
- Add the remaining water and stir.
- Filter the prepared gooseberry juice in a strainer.
- If adding honey, add after filtering the juice.
- Enjoy each sip of energetic gooseberry juice every morning.
