Dates-Coconut Paniyaram

I really enjoy stuffing with different kinds of stuff as they turn to be a great surprise for kids. Kuzhi paniyaram is usually prepared with left-over idly or dosa batter which has both sweet and spicy versions. I prefer to use aapam batter for making kuzhi paniyaram as they outcome super soft paniyarams.



The recipe here is a sweet versioned dumpling made with 'Dates-Coconut' mixture as a filling. You would get a 'paniyaram cum kozukattai' feel when you give a bite. A very kid-friendly and mouth-watering snack box recipe is here just for you.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 15 dumplings

What to Use?
  • Aapam batter - 1 cup
  • Jaggery -1/4 cup
  • Dates -10
  • Coconut -5 tbsp

How to Make?

1. To Make Sweet Aapam Batter:
  • Add jaggery to the batter, whisk well and keep aside. 

2. To Make Stuffing:
  • Grind dates and coconut together to get a crumbled mixture.
  • Keep the mixture aside.

3. To Make Stuffed Paniyarams:
  • Heat a paniyaram pan and drop 2 drops of ghee to each mold.
  • Pour aapam batter to 1/4th area of each mold.

  • Place a small portion of the stuffing mixture over the aapam batter and do the same for all molds.
  • Press the stuffing gently with the hands.

  • Now, pour aapam batter over the stuffing in such a way to cover the stuffing.

  • Wait for a minute and flip the dumplings.
  • Wait for a minute again to get the other side cooked.



  • Transfer to a plate and enjoy the dumplings. 


Tips:
  • You could do the recipe with the idly batter.
  • More Stuffing yields more healthy and tasty dumplings.
